Blue Ridge Chapel Baptist Church has enjoyed the devoted leadeship of Pastor Mark Mays. The congregation thanks him and wishes him and his family the best as they move on to new opportunities as of November 1, 2022. The church is currenlty conducting a search for a new pastor.

Pastor Mark has an intense passion to preach and teach the truth of God’s word clearly and unapologetically. He finds the best part of ministry visiting and getting to know people as part of their journey to know and grow in the Lord Jesus Christ.

Pastor Mark and his wife Emily have been with Blue Ridge Chapel Baptist Church since 2017. He originally served as a short-term interim pastor before accepting the role as full-time senior pastor.

Called into ministry in 2015, Pastor Mark is currently completing his degree at Fruitland Baptist Bible College in Hendersonville, NC. His anticipated graduation of December 2022. Prior to accepting the call to ministry, he served the Lord in almost every capacity within local church bodies for over 35 years.

He already holds an Associate’s Degree in Nursing from Surry Community College, a Bachelor’s of Nursing from UNC Charlotte, and a Master’s in Nursing from Columbia University. With these degrees, he’s worked as a nurse and family nurse practitioner for the past 35 years. He currently practices medicine at Hugh Chatham Family Practice and Express Care in Dobson, NC. Emily is also a registered nurse and currently works with the Surry County Health and Nutrition Center as their quality assurance coordinator.

Pastor Mark grew up in nearby Mt. Airy, NC. He and Emily have been married for 35 years and have two children. Their daughter Jessica, a 5th-grade teacher, is married to Adam Johnson, a police officer and sergeant of narcotics. Their son Christian is a registered nurse. They have three grandchildren, Kenley, Aubrey, and Ryan.

Pastor Mark enjoys spending time with family, fishing, camping, and all spectator sports. He and Emily currently split their time living in both Dobson, NC, and Fancy Gap, VA.
